The Next Technology Bubble

In 2024 it will be 25 years since the height of the DotCom boom and 24 years since the beginning of the DotCom crash. They say these kinds of bubbles occur generationally. This is interesting because Generative AI has just appeared and should go mainstream in 2024. This has been engendering almost hysterical frenzy.

My guess and prediction is that (at least in Silicon Valley) we will see the beginning of a new technology bubble in 2024. We could call this the DotAI boom and probably, eventually, bust. The timeframe will probably be much shorter as seems to occur with AI in technology.

How are we in New Zealand going to choose to react to this? Are we going to be sensible or are we going to join the rational or "irrational exuberance"? Remember that the dotcom boom before it failed created great wealth and led to the rapid growth of Amazon and Google.

Personally, I would choose to ride the bubble with the provision that we are aware that it is a bubble. However, for me this is not about making money. It is about improving society, the social good. It about bringing as many people with us as possible. And, yes, it is about the excitement of the ride.
