Multi-Cloud Bursting from Openstack to Windows Azure and Amazon AWS

In the next five years, we are going to observe a worldwide change in our form to relation us with our environment. Indeed, the technology is going to integrate more and more in our electrodomestic, clothes,  furnitures etc... thanks to different sensors measuring:

  • Environment parameters:
    • Temperature
    • Humidity
    • Luminosity
    • Acoustic Pollution
  • Location information:
    • GPS
    • Bluetooth
    • Wifi
  • Vital constants:
    • Body Temperature
    • Cardiac signal
    • Skin conductance
  • and much more…

Moreover, we are going to use more and more our smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and smartglasses continuously publishing an amazing amount of posts, tweets, pictures, video and audio files in real-time.

Indeed, the futurist devices or “Internet of Things (IoT)” are going to increase by ten by ten years increasing the production of data dramatically from 7,8 Zettabytes in 2015 to 176 Zettabytes in 2025 (Huawei reference: http://goo.gl/9hJEEU )

However, we have to be able to store, manage and analyse all these datas in real-time thanks to Big Data to keep being competitive in a fast-moving market, the needs in storage and computing capacity will grow so much that the private datacenter will not be able to absorb them. Therefore, we will need elastic and dynamic infrastructures to control these workloads leveraging new cloud mechanism like “Cloud Bursting”. For instance, video streaming, TV online, social gaming, big data, ecommerce, travel agency companies, banks and big scientific center will be very interested in being in control this dynamic workload in their own information system architecture.

HOW?

By adopting a strategy to migrate step-by-step to the Cloud Computing. These companies could migrate towards a Private Cloud mixing little by little the benefits of the public cloud thanks to an Hybrid Cloud Technology.

Nevertheless, we will observe more and more providers with different services and security, pricing, eco-efficiency or performance policies. In consequence, these companies will have to develop a multi-cloud strategy to leverage the benefits of each one of them avoiding a possible lock-in.

In this presentation, we will try to present the key considerations, risks, benefits  to start an hybrid cloud, cloud bursting, and/or multi-cloud strategy based on an integrated mix of different technologies like Openstack, Rightscale, Amazon AWS and Windows Azure.
