Modular Process Concept
We can automate repetitive tasks by standardizing the design and its process. Templates will capture them, and we can automate our work by applying them to projects.
I believe that if you build a process that goes from design to detail, when you change the design, the details should automatically change.
This automation can be very applicable to modular projects. You can create a space and include all the building elements that go into that space in a single template. This template can be modified in many ways depending on the options.
Then, we can focus on thinking about the space arrangements in the project, which template to apply to which space, and which options to change.
I'd like to explain in 8 steps how these can be applied to your projects.
01. Mashing and space review
First of all, in cases such as mashing or space review, the construction method may vary depending on the characteristics of the project.
You could create a building mass as a collection of chunks, divide it into floors, and then place it as space within the floors.
02. Design Development
The Design development stage will be the stage where each building element is placed and reviewed.
Once we can automate the process of placing building elements, we can do a variety of reviews much faster.
In the case of modular projects, assuming there is a modular system, you can build a template to arrange the parts accordingly.
03.Use of Design results
Once the layout of building elements is complete, there will be a stage for utilizing the results, such as basic quantity calculation or converting to IFC for collaboration with external companies.
This example is a task to import a design wall created in REVIT into CATIA and create a detailed wall. Before that, REVIT data is analyzed to see if there are any design problems, if there is a detailed template to apply, and this is an example of applying a Check Template and displaying it in Color. In this case, a Template that creates a report with images is included in the PPT file.
04.Design Modification
The important thing is that since these results are built using the Top-Down modeling method, if the design at the upper level is modified, the details at the lower level can be modified simply by updating them.
In the past, people worked hard to make revisions before the deadline, but by automating this repetitive work, it has the effect of reducing time, improving quality, and reducing human error.

05. Engineering Template
This is about the detailed model template for production.
When creating a template and applying it to a project, the details are automatically reflected in the project by replacing the input shape or information.
When creating a template, you can apply it to various regulations. For example, if the parameters such as wind load or snow load change, you can increase or decrease the number of members.
In order to make the most of the template in this way, it is important to collect as much information as possible. You can include things like material information for quantity calculation, information for production (like drawings), and information for assembly construction (construction order).
Creating such a template can actually be done by standardizing the design process or know-how, and since the template created in this way can be applied to other similar projects, it actually plays an important role in accumulating know-how within the company!
06.Apply Engineering Template to the Projects
The template created in this way can be applied to the project.
In the project, the results created in the design stage are used as input. In addition to shape information, if you plant interface-related option information in the input, you can apply the template while changing the shape or information to suit the project.
Since the details are not reflected in the BIM model in the existing method, this engineering part is often still done based on 2D.
However, we have input and template and automatically create the results!
07. Utilizing the Engineering results
The results of the template application can be used to extract and use things like quantity calculations and production drawings by executing various logics that have been embedded in the template in advance.
Parts that require repetitive work such as nesting for quantity optimization or dimension creation can be automatically resolved.
08.Engineering Modification.
If we can know in advance what will be modified, we can easily modify the model by placing these variables at the top. If an unpredictable change occurs, if the design is changed, we can change the design, and if the detailed template needs to be modified or updated, we can update the template itself and reapply it, making the template more sophisticated.
Based on what I have said so far, if we proceed with the project, we can connect it with the Top-Down modeling method from the design to the end of engineering. In this case, when the design is actually modified, it becomes a model that can be automatically changed to the details.
This is the end of the introduction to the Modular Process Concept utilization of CATIA.
