MENTORING
MENTORING is similar to COACHING in many ways but not the same. MENTORING is when a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. MENTORING is more relationship-oriented while COACHING is more task-oriented. MENTORING is more development-driven while COACHING is more performance-driven.
The agenda is more determined by the mentee than the mentor, and more determined by the coach than the coachee.
I seek MENTORING more often than COACHING but I am more often seeking support for developing relationships and general capacity than support for specific performance and precise tasks. Earlier in my career I may have sought coaches relatively more often.
Mentors can be older or younger and can be in different fields than your focus
