Step Away from the Algorithm says Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban just gave the shortest keynote in history at the Digital Summit here in Dallas.
In a refreshing 10 minutes before opening up to the 1400 delegates for questions, the entrepreneur owner of the Dallas Mavericks told the assembled digital marketers that we're becoming to enslaved to metrics and the algorithms of Facebook and Google etc. and we need to create more "experiential connections" with consumers.
He sees a shift happening where we go back to old school marketing tactics where the key to success is real-world experiences for customers that excite and delight, and where the digital experience becomes secondary.
I found it refreshing. How about you?

Algorithms are exactly that, pre-determined automation. It's very tempting to think we can automate marketing and consumer behaviour so that you don't need to rely on personnel or outside agencies to do it for you. (extra cost) But there's a human on the end of that algorithm and it's creativity and the hook therein that makes people sit-up, sign up or buy.
I tend to agree. Soon Marketers and Business Owners will get tired of chasing the Algorithm that always changes to continue to monetize search results against them. It can often be a losing battle for many SMB's.
