Map Amazon AWS services to Google Cloud (GCP), and Microsoft Azure products
There are a lot of people nowadays that are using cloud or only moving their infrastructure to the cloud. Each cloud provider has strengths and weaknesses and most of the time your choice will be based on what exactly you want to build in the cloud. There is also a high chance that various teams working in your company will prefer to use different cloud providers for their specific projects.
Before doing a comparison and making a final decision, you have to know at least what are the names of these services for each cloud provider. If you are already familiar with AWS services, a quick way to understand what the various Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure services do is to map them to AWS services that offer similar functionality.
The following table provides a high-level mapping of the services provided by the three most popular cloud platforms: Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. It includes only those main services that all three cloud providers have and following categories are covered: Compute, Storage, Network, Database, Big Data & Analytics, Application Services, and Management Services.
There are cases when people stick with one specific provider but they still would like to know which alternatives are available to them. I hope the information that you will find in the table can be helpful to you as well.
Initially, I had a plan to include more details about each service, for example, which scripting languages and versions AWS Lambda supports, but there are so many changes happening to each cloud provider that it would be really difficult to keep this table up to date. Therefore, I decided to include only names of these services, but more detailed information can be found using the links below:
Amazon AWS: https://aws.amazon.com/products/
Google Cloud Platform (GCP): https://cloud.google.com/products/
Microsoft Azure: https://azure.microsoft.com/services/
Thank you for your time! If you see that something is missing please feel free to suggest in the comments more services which are available in all three cloud provider.
