Managers Need to be Aggressive. Right?

Finding high performance hard to achieve?

It is really hard to get the high performance you need in business today. Some say, applied aggression, cracking the whip and not accept any excuse gets the highest performance.

Er… no.

Noticed this tendency these days for hiring or promoting managers who are aggressive? Mistakenly the belief is it’s the only way to achieve high performance, when actually people achieve higher performance when they are really encouraged and engaged in an organisation. Would you produce your best work for a bully? Aggression disengages people making them passive and only too keen to take the money and run come 5.00pm!

Given the lack of management training in the UK revealed in the CMI’s Management 2020 report, it is highly likely that any tendency towards aggressive management is due to not knowing any better.

Management development training and coaching or mentoring on the job equips managers to effectively deliver sustainable high performance.
