Making the Most of Generative AI

Making the Most of Generative AI

It was incredible to have joined and spoken at Nurture Business Retreat last week with over 100 business leaders and champion athletes! I’m still buzzing from the energy and insights that were shared at this amazing event. During the retreat I shared some knowledge of how to make the most of generative AI. If you missed it, don't worry - I've got you covered with some key takeaways from my talk.

Takeaway 1. Why is it a great time to dive into AI? ChatGPT, Bard, and other generative AI technologies have been made much more user-friendly than any AI systems before them. You don’t need to be a coder or a data scientist to use them - you just need to have a clear goal and a creative mindset. These tools can help you generate anything from attractive headlines to engaging stories, from catchy slogans to persuasive sales pitches, from stunning logos to innovative products, and more. The possibilities are endless!

Takeaway 2. Using Generative AI is like asking your cousin to do some tasks for you. You have to give her enough contextual information in order for her to do exactly what you want. You may even need to break it down into smaller steps or asking if she has any questions. For example, if you want ChatGPT to write a slogan for you, you have to give it a topic, a tone, a target audience, some keywords, and even examples of similar slogan. You also have to check its output for accuracy, relevance, and originality, and give it feedback if needed. Generative AI is not a magic wand - it’s a powerful assistant that needs your guidance and supervision.

Takeaway 3. There are a lot of common usages of generative AI in the industry, such as generating marketing contents, product design and development, customer support and services, data analysis and research, and language translation. While it is a good idea to start with a simple project in an area that gives you obvious return on investment, it will be even more beneficial to think about how AI can be used in your business to sustain or enhance your competitive advantages.

Takeaway 4. Generative AI is not neutral - it reflects the data that it is trained on, the objectives that it is optimised for, and the values that it is aligned with. As leaders in our field, we have a responsibility to ensure that our generative AI applications are fair, transparent, accountable, and respectful of human dignity and diversity.

Takeaway 5. Generative AI is evolving rapidly - new language models are being developed and improved every day, new applications are being discovered and deployed, new regulations are being proposed, and new business models and alliances are going to emerge from new plug-ins and functions. As leaders, we have to keep up with the pace of change - to stay informed of the latest trends and developments in generative AI, and to adapt our strategies and operations accordingly.
