understanding how AI changes our work and life

An important question: What is AI? For many people, it remains unclear what this technology is all about, so this is a good place to start the conversation. AI is a branch in computer science that deals with the intelligent behavior of machines. It is an ingeniously simulated ability of a machine to imitate human behavior and our conventional response patterns. This is made possible with specific algorithms that make the AI function in a specified scope of activities (according to what the algorithm codes for). This means that with AI, many of our everyday activities can now be carried out effectively by programmed machine technology.

Over the years, a number of technocrats in the field have carried out extensive work in broadening the prospects of fundamental AI innovations. However, one of the prevailing concerns is in the need for a structure where both male and female genders participate as innovators and active movers. This concern comes as a result of overwhelming male-driven dispositions being incorporated into finished Al functioning products. The reason for this is that few women are present and involved in the development of artificial intelligence.

It will change how we relate to each other. I would argue that it will even change how we perceive what it means to be human. -- David Coplin

Elon Musk speaks of the great potentials of AI in bettering the world systems. However, his latest concerns are on the possibilities of an inability of humans to ultimately control its accompanying negative effects. According to Musk, human-designed AI may end up becoming a kind of nuisance to man - if it finally becomes pervasive.

For many of us, artificial intelligence (AI) has sneaked up on our lives discreetly and without making much fuss. Right now, it’s almost everywhere — at our workplace, in our homes, cars, in our phones and laptops — in short, in the things that have become integral in our lives. Moreover, AI devices know what kind of TV shows and movies we like, what kind of music we love, and what type of partners we prefer. Apart from our private lives, AI is influencing multiple business spheres like automotive, healthcare, economy, e-commerce, and entertainment. Over time, artificial intelligence is going to become more sophisticated and omnipotent.

Probably, many of you have seen a video, where Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai presented in 2018 Google Duplex, an upgrade of Google Assistant that can understand context. The presentation was entertaining and at the same time, somewhat uncanny. In the first part of the Google Duplex presentation, the AI was making an appointment at a beauty parlor over the phone, and the lady on the other side didn’t suspect a thing. She didn’t realize that she wasn’t talking to a human being. Google Duplex was so convincing you could hardly tell the difference between a real person and AI. It could perfectly imitate human speech flow and drop hedges like “um,” “mm-hmm,” “oh,” understand questions and respond in a human-like manner. It looked as if two people were having a mundane conversation.

On November 21, 2019, Google announced that Google Duplex can also purchase a movie ticket for you on the web! It is now available in almost all states across the USA, and you can use the updated Google Assistant to make reservations at a restaurant, an appointment at a salon, and also buy movie tickets. Who knows what’s going to be the next step for this virtual assistant.
