Neuralink is developing an implantable brain-machine interface(device). We can say it is a digital layer above the cortex. This was basically a science fiction concept but ideally, this device successfully implanted in the guinea pig. This is useful for disabled people to control their prosthetic arms and legs for sure. But the future is different! In the future, maybe we can control anything through this. I remember marvel's Ant-man movie in which he controls the various types of ants (the crazy ant, the bullet ant, the carpenter ant; and the fire ant) by the device hanged on the ear; and this is a similar type of device which literally could artificial organs move!
Our brain is made up of billions of neurons that communicate with electrical spikes. Those spikes and electricity travel between neurons. That communication controls speech or movements. For example, when we move our legs that action started as an electrical spike. Our brain cells kind of like electrical wiring. And as like neurons, the electrical chip could do the same. This device designed to be implanted directly into the brain by a surgical robot. Same-day surgery with general anesthesia. It plugs into the brain directly by microscopic electrodes(about 20 microns) that connected to neurons for sending and receiving electrical signals. The electrodes have the layer of insulation also! It is a wireless device that has wireless charging, wireless connection with a smartphone by Bluetooth.
Our senses work perfectly in natural conditions. But beyond a certain limit, they do not work as we want. Basically our senses have limitations, and we cannot go further or beyond these limitations by own. But we can implant various artificial organs and technologies like the link. I think our generation finding ways to explore the new world that we couldn't explore by our body or senses. Our body follows classical physics.
The abilities of the body will increase in the future. Maybe it will go beyond our today's imagination. Einstein once said that "Everybody is genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid" but we started to increase ability. No one will judge by its ability! The point is, the situation will be different in the future! and technology is boon.
