Let's Talk: Creativity (initial thoughts)

Let's Talk: Creativity (initial thoughts)

What’s the first thought that pops into your head whenever you hear the word “Creative”? When asked that question, a majority of people mention artists, painting, drawing or keeping a scrapbook. And if you are reading this, you are probably a bit like me- driven to change the perspective that people have on creativity.

The truth is, creativity is responsible for almost everything you see, consume and experience around you. Quite simply put, creativity is one’s ability to create. To use the old, introduce the new and rearrange the patterns to create a novel product that will hopefully bring value to humans.

Once we grasp a better understanding of the role that creativity plays in human development, we can start asking ourselves better questions.

How do we come up with ideas?

Where do we draw inspiration from and what restricts us from accessing it?

Is it a magic process?

What do I need to be creative?

While science is trying to discern the phenomenon, certain people have identified and consolidated concise systems and explanations that can guide us around our synaptic connections. But that’s a lot of big words, isn’t it?

The truth is, Creativity is still very unknown to us, and maybe that’s a good thing. In fact, becoming aware of the process only drags it to the surface from the subconscious to the conscious. In return, the brain tries to satisfy its need to survive and develops a solution that it has already implemented or observed in the past.

How ironic is it that our survival instincts and patterns are our most fierce opponent?

And again:

How do we come up with ideas?

Where do we draw inspiration from and what restricts us from accessing it?

Is it a magic process?

What do I need to be creative?

I will go further into all these later, but if you enjoyed the reading, I want to hear your side on Creativity. What’s your special sauce; your magic potion? Does such a thing exist?

Till next time, Vlad.
