Let the Gamification begin!!

Let the Gamification begin!!

A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention

By Dr. Herbert Simon (1971)

Attention scarcity is a time allocation problem; after all, time is a great equalizer, and it’s not as if each of us has got more than 24 hours a day. A 2011 study shows that each one of us is bombarded every day with 174 newspaper equivalent data. The question is, if this is the case, then how do learning professionals cut through the noise and ensure that learners are engaged? How can we increase the impact of teaching and training so that students and organizations see results? One way to do this is to include the fun quotient in it. When something is fun we can’t help but be engaged because our brain is releasing dopamine which orients our attention. When the learner is engaged they are motivated and are more likely to learn. This is where the gamification of learning comes into play.

What is Gamification?

Gamification is the art of applying gaming workings to non-gaming scenarios. This concept has been incorporated in the Learning industry to engage students with learning and make learning more compelling. Gamification has the capability to appeal to the user’s need of social connection, learn the ropes, competition, accomplishments and standing. This engagement has given rise to the era of gamification.

Every game is defined by a goal, it could be as simple as scoring a goal or world domination. There is a clear differentiation between gamification and learning games. The inline mentioned table lists the differences between an actual game and gamification.

How does it work?

Gamification isn’t about games; it’s about the Users. It isn’t about mastery but conduct.

The persuasion techniques in games are used for your day-to-day and professional learning. It allows quick positive criticism of development/announcement of objectives.

What You Need to KnowGamification is a model that can be inculcated in learning to make it more appealing, but this shouldn’t be observed in seclusion to other applications and approaches. There remain numerous prospects to instrument the conceptions of gamification in learning, both in old-fashioned learning settings and particularly, in e-learning. However, to inspire valuable learning experiences it necessitates significant thought about what is suitable for the user and the framework. This is fundamentally similar to schematic learning methods more commonly, and gamification must be taken into consideration at the same design phase.
