Learning a New Language

Learning a New Language

No we are not talking about a Programing Language. (c,c++,java etc) but about Learning a Foreign Language. This year a lot of our corporate clients have asked for foreign language training programs. Hence we felt the need to share the importance of this new trend.

Thanks to our Soft Skills Advisor Varsha Amin for her insight on this. Study of Foreign Languages have some of the following benefits.

Academic benefits

The study of another language affects academic areas as well. Research has shown that children who have studied a foreign language in elementary school achieve higher scores on standardized tests in reading, language arts, and mathematics .Foreign language study has also been shown to enhance listening skills and memory. Research has proved that students who have studied a foreign language develop greater cognitive skills in such areas as mental flexibility, creativity, divergent thinking and higher order thinking skills .

Improve your employ ability

We live in an increasingly globalized world and companies are constantly expanding overseas and dealing with clients from all over the world. Between two candidates with the exact same skill

set and experience, the person who is bilingual is arguably much more likely to get the job. Business skills plus foreign language skills make an employee more valuable in the marketplace.

Study or live overseas

If you feel like you’re in for some change and you’re looking for some excitement and adventure in your life, a foreign language might just be the door that’s waiting to be opened. Why not leave for a few years and study in East Asia?

Or perhaps find your dream job in Germany? Whatever it is that you want, knowing a second language will suddenly shrink the world and bring you opportunities of a lifetime.

Become more open-minded

Learning a foreign language and getting soaked into an entirely new culture and world view is the surest way to become an open-minded, understanding individual. Once you are aware of the fact that we are all cultural beings, products of our own environments, and that you recognize the cultural base for your own attitudes and behavior, you are ready to consider others in a more favorable light. Foreign language study leads to an appreciation of cultural diversity. Seeing the world from a different perspective, and understanding where you and others come from, is a fantastic, eye-opening experience.

If education is a means to prepare us for the complicated world we inhabit, then the educational system should not deprive of a general education in the area of foreign language. The value of such an education not only lies in job preparation but also in developing an understanding of other people and cultures and develop us on a holistic level.

Hi Rudra. The requirement are very client specific. It majorily depends on where are your clients from. But to answer your question I don't mind putting up this order. 1. MANDARIN 2. JAPANESE 3. MALAY 4. ARABIC 5. FRENCH 6. GERMAN And good ENGLISH prevailes in general. Here the program are not just restricted to language knowledge but goes to an extend of understanding the culture and mannerism of the land. Others are most welcome to add on this list. 😃

As per the trend, which language has more takers in corporate than the rest? Any idea?
