Learning is (always) fun

Learning is (always) fun

I will start my contemplation with rhetorical question ; as adult do we need to keep learning?

I was not the brightest kid in school. I tend to enjoy outdoor activity rather than sitting for hours in classroom, which eventually shaped my so-called skills in human relation. I'd rather spent hours talking and engaging to an activity as opposed listening to some teacher mumbling things about concepts and abstracts. Those days were really boring for me :-)

Then came reality, as I grow older and involve in every aspects of human being and its complexity, turned out that I do need to (really) spent time in sitting down and listen to others on their thinking and concept. Expert says, seek to understand to be understood. And you can only do that by listen attentively. But the difference is, school were associated with (boring) teachers, whilst grown up world are more lively - tons of thousand different kind of people with different personality.

The interesting part for my is that, I learn more in my adulthood. I can easily grasp the concept of someone else and at the same time sharing my thoughts which in turn enrich my thinking. That's the gap I did not get in my school years. Which is fair when most of people says, your diploma may rank the best but you are suck at what you do - excuse my French -

That's what has been lingering in my head when I was tasked to organize an event for leaders. What can we do to make it different? As normal corporate world will do, when leaders get together, we talk figures, result, challenges and action plan. Same with us, we will share those information as it is needed for everyone to understand where we are right now, plus what shall be done immediately. But what do we need to present to them to strengthen the message we would like to convey?

LEGO SeriousPlay. That's it. In short, we had such fun time in learning the concepts of team collaboration and the importance of working together. We identified the gaps, map our current positions, and came out with possible solutions. All with the help of playing LEGO.

What's in it for us? Fun atmosphere filled with enthusiastic person that (really) collaborate for a common goal. All participants were hyped and really into it, which make the learning was easily understandable.

So, we are in need of (constant) learning. No matter where we are, what age we are, or even what position we are in a corporate world. I guess the only difference is, nowadays you can choose the type of learning that suits you. Some says adult learning experience involve heavily on 'seeing is believing'. If that's the case, we have not wrong in our decision to have LEGO SeriousPlay supporting our event of Leadership Summit 2019.

But what about on-line learning? Does not technology really plays important role now? Let's share that some other time...
