Language Neutral Communication
I was taught that communication is a loop where transmission, reception , assimilation and acknowledgment are the constituents.
In my previous role, whilst heading a large training establishment we found that language is one of the key barriers.(we had recruits from all states and friendly countries),language of instruction was Hindi.
Like every young boy they took like fish to water when it came to handling weapons, showing off physical skills but were often found wanting academically.
Cut to my present role.800 plus blue collar workers, each skilled and technically adept but we were wrestling with their minds to help imbibe nuances of Ethics,Legal codes like POSH and safety habits to be inculcated, audience being sourced from a mix of urban,semi-urban and rural backgrounds across five states.
Brainstorming led to selection of language neutral medium……Animation. This I believe is the universal language and can speed up assimilation.
Guess what ?, It worked. I was able to get results of trainees up and explain concepts , retention of which were validated by testing.
May not out of the Box for most in the corporate world but certainly path breaking in my work environment.
A refreshing means of communication however we wonder whether it has been attempted at higher levels of instruction. Still a novel idea
Mony.....Your rich experience as a commanding officer seems to have brought in such unique insight which can be a game changer for managers in the corporate world and can bring back focus on developing universal cognitive tools for effective information representation. Certainly will be path breaking if we adopt it everywhere!
the steady reversion to hieroglyphs :)
Excellent Keep up the good work. Regards
