Lincoln Griffith (the little guy in the picture) has just published a new children's book, We Went Walking in the Wash, a true story about his adventures hiking in the desert around his house with his grandpa (me). The book is 52 pages long, with 26 color photographs. Here's the beginning:

My grandpa and I like to go walking

in the desert around our house.

When I get home from school I just say,

“Come on Grandpa, let's go outside and do something.”

I tell him to put on his boots. I put on my boots,

and we go out walking.

I'm helping promote this because he is putting the profits into a college fund for himself and his sister...and I'm a proud grandpa, of course.

What I've learned from this project is that little kids (he's now seven years old) can do more than most adults expect, if they are simply given respect as equals. They know they don't know all we do, but they do think their ideas are just as worthy as ours. They want to be heard.

If we are honest with our children and grandchildren, letting them know we don't know everything, they actually get stronger. Let them try hard things; let them make mistakes and fail. And be sure to tell them how much they are loved, no matter what they do. They will rise to the challenges of the world. They will surprise you in a good way. Lincoln asked me, "Can I sweep out the garage?" Wow! That's cool.

About the author:

Lincoln Griffith was six when he wrote this with his Grandpa Gary, who is much older than that. Lincoln has lived all of his life in Cave Creek, Arizona. He likes to play outside, build things, read, and help work around the house.

This book tells the true story of the adventures Lincoln and his grandpa had while exploring a wash near their house. Lincoln found animal trails, some animal bones, interesting rocks, mud puddles, a beehive, and more you can read about. He also learned how to avoid getting lost.

We're so impressed and can't wait to read the book! Just put in a order for 3 and plan to share with family! Nice work, guys!!

Whoohoo! So cool! Lincoln is one lucky kiddo to have you for a papa! Thank you for loving him so much!

Congrats to Lincoln and you Gary! 7 years old with his first book published, he's so fortunate to have you and the adventures you two share. Humble admiration!

Challenging a childs mine will help them become stronger and it opens our eyes and see the wonder of the world through theirs. I am in awe of the thinkings of a child.
