Java is Still a Safe Bet
TIOBE Index for January 2016 makes interesting reading for Java developers and consumers (companies). It shows that Java is strong and still growing even in the face of so much competition from new languages. This is good news from a team resourcing perspective.
Also, difficult to understand is the small decline for JavaScript given its ubiquitous use in client browsers and growing use on the server side by, for example, Node JS and server side reactjs.
What's also interesting is that the visual programming language Ladder Logic is still in the top 50 of most popular languages. This language is old and is used for coding on Programmable Logic Controllers (used for industrial process control). The visual / intentional programming/ DSL nature of this language was way ahead of its time and, I guess, therefore has withstood time, I find this very interesting.
