Introducing our new Head of BI
What led you to NPC?
I joined the NHS in 2010, working at the time as a Business and Information lead for the North Norfolk Referral Management Centre, whilst also covering the BI service for the newly forming North Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). I later joined North Norfolk CCG and over time led me to leading the BI services for the central Norfolk CCGs. In 2021 I became the Head of BI for Norfolk and Waveney CCG, as the organisations merged. As well as leading the BI services, these roles were also very hands on, so I have technical experience as an analyst, as well as experience of leading and managing BI teams and services.
My most recent role was working as the Head of BI for Norfolk and Waveney ICB, where I managed a number of BI teams, who provided support to a range of different service areas, including primary care, acute urgent and emergency care, acute elective care, mental health, community, maternity, workforce and VCSE, amongst others.
What will you be doing at NPC?
I've joined NPC as Head of Business Intelligence. NPC has access to a wealth of healthcare data and reporting, which is produced both locally and via national routes. It's my job to turn that data and reporting into useful information that can be used to aid evidence-based decision making for the organisation, monitor the performance of the services we provide and better understand the health needs of the population we serve.
As the Head of BI, which is a new role within the organisation, I'll be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive BI strategy that will need to align with the goals and objectives of the organisation. This will need to include plans for enhancing internal management information reporting, the development of a robust reporting framework and plans for the development of 'BI as a service' with the aim of supporting better decision-making at General Practice level and helping practices to develop the insights necessary to secure resources and relevant cases for change. By focusing on these main areas, decision-makers within NPC can base their actions on accurate and up-to-date data, leading to greater efficiency, better resource allocation, and improved patient outcomes within the Norfolk & Waveney Healthcare System.

Why NPC?
I was attracted to NPC as I felt the role provides an exciting opportunity, but I’ve also heard nothing but good things about NPC as an organisation.
Having most recently managed a large team at the ICB, I was keen to get back to my roots and into a role where I could be more hands-on and influence meaningful change. The opportunity to join a growing organisation and develop/expand the BI service, and the autonomy that this brings, was immediately appealing and presents an exciting personal challenge and opportunity. I also feel very passionate about harnessing the power of data to drive meaningful improvements in health and care services, ensuring better outcomes and enhanced patient care, with the hope of making a real difference to patients within the Norfolk and Waveney system. I feel this role gives me the perfect opportunity to do that.
I'm excited to join an organisation where I have already had the privilege of working with several familiar faces from previous roles, knowing them all to be positive, extremely capable, and deeply passionate about their work. I believe NPC as an organisation is also dedicated to putting the needs of patients and GP practices first, at the heart of everything that is done, which is a big motivator to me. I'm very much looking forward to working with the team, developing a better understanding of the information requirements of the organisation across all levels and then developing and implementing the strategy necessary to fulfill this requirement.
Congratulations Jon. You'll be a great asset to their team.
Fantastic to have you on board Jon. We are all looking forward to seeing what you can do! 👍
