Have you ever gone to an interview with your insides twisted into a knot because you were nervous? Interestingly, while interviews are common in the professional world, they can still be one of the most nerve-racking experiences. Here are some interview tips that will help elevate your interview skills while hopefully making you more comfortable!
Keep in mind, the purpose of an interview is twofold. Not only is it an opportunity for you to highlight your skills for the role, but to also discover if this role is a good fit for you.
Tip #1 – Research the position and the company.
Check out the company’s website and social media, this can help you get a feel for the culture and company. Review the job description! When you research the company and position before going into an interview, it has a few different benefits. First, it gives you a better understanding of what the role looks like and what some of the expectations might be. Tip #2 – Communication is key.
Strong communication is crucial during an interview, both verbal and non-verbal communication. Make sure to be enthusiastic and engaged throughout the interview, whether you are listening, answering, or asking questions. Also, be sure to pace yourself; speaking too quickly or too slowly can make it difficult for the interviewer to follow. Maintaining good eye contact is also important as it shows you are listening and engaged.
Tip #3 – What makes you, you?
The interview is your opportunity to let the manager know why you are the perfect person for the position. What sets you apart from the other applicants? If you get the job, what will you bring to the company? You are special and unique, so make sure to highlight that and share your accomplishments!
Tip #4 – Remote Interviewing.
With many companies still working remotely, remote interviewing is becoming more common, which has its own challenges. First and foremost, make sure to test your technology! Nothing is worse than trying to attend your interview and realizing your Zoom app needs to update. Also, try to remove distractions. If you can, find a quiet place to conduct the interview that is also cleared of any clutter. Finally, still keep in mind other interview etiquette, such as being on time, dressing appropriately, and being prepared,
