The interview process
What should you expect from your new employer ?
I have worked for many companies over the years and all of them saying how they put their people first and in reality don't. The disturbing part of this is that it becomes the norm and what you expect.
I started looking for a new role a few months back (due to feeling disengaged with the business I was working for).
I was very fortunate to get a number of interviews and opportunities coming my way. However, the interviews didn't give me a good feeling. These were the type where it would be weeks before an interview was sorted. Where they wanted you to go through several stages of a long winded process over as many weeks as possible and they were clearly not interested in people or me for that matter (just what I could deliver for them).
I then got a call regarding my new role. A few days later and a teams interview with my now boss. We clicked and for the first time in a long time I really wanted this opportunity.
The following week (and a when could you do) a second and final interview where I would be working followed by a tour and discussion around where the business is now and the opportunities before it.
A few hours later my now boss calls me and offers me the job. And do you know what ? He was just as pleased that I accepted it as I was to accept it. There is a good feeling when you are wanted and understood.
I was due to start in a week. I was then asked if I could start in a few days time as to be involved in the budget process. On my first day my new laptop and phone were there for me and set up ready to go. My boss spent the first two days supporting me in my new role and taking the time to take me through everything I could possibly want to know.
The whole experience has been great. I have had many people welcome me to the business and I going to head office next week to meet key people I will be working with across the departments.
I am looking forward to my journey with Cranleigh Distribution and Pallex. The business is going to be increasingly successful as it truly values its people. This is a business I feel I want to be part of, where I am feeling motivated, where I feel I can make a positive difference and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.
We should expect more from our employer. And I have been reminded what good looks like...
