Internship Experience at ADVA

ADVA Optical Networking is a European telecommunications vendor that provides network equipment for data, storage, voice and video services. ADVA has a global workforce of over 1,800 employees and its FSP 3000 has been deployed in more than 250 carriers and 10,000 enterprises. ADVA was founded in 1994 by Brian Protiva. It established its headquarters in Martinsried near Munich and its first production facility in Meiningen. Funded by Egora Holding, the company's initial focus was on the development of wavelength division multiplexing technology, designed to provide enterprises, including like banks, insurance firms and utilities, with high-bandwidth network connectivity. In 2009, Infonetics Research listed ADVA as the industry leader (#1 position) in the Ethernet Access Device (EAD) space with a market share of 20 percent, based on 2008 revenues. In 2016, ADVA was listed as the industry leader (#1 position) in Ovum's data center interconnect (DCI) global market share report, with the largest market share in both the metro ICP/CNP and enterprise categories. My experience here at ADVA has been absolutely fantastic. I am working as a System Integration Test – Intern at ADVA in their R&D department. Working as a part of an Agile Scrum team I am responsible for building automated test suites with focus on testing ADVA’s next generation software platform (ADVA-OS). Also, I help in delivering a continuous regression test environment of the ADVA-OS platform built using ADVA’s test platform, scripts and automation tools. Although my previous experience in telecommunication industry has helped me to understand the systems really quick but there is still so much to learn. Special thanks to my manager Mrs. Rajitha Panicker, who has helped me diligently in learning different tools. I have gained knowledge about Robot framework, Git repositories, understanding UML diagrams better and much more.

I was also able to apply the knowledge gained from my curriculum of MS ITM at JSOM, UTD. Courses like Object oriented programming with Python, Database Management and Agile Project Management have really been helpful throughout the internship.

In the end, I would like to add that this internship has given me exposure to the work culture and how an organization operates here in United States. I feel lucky to have given this opportunity to work here as an intern where everyone is so welcoming and always ready to help in whatever way possible.
