Infographics...Assemble!
With the new Avengers movie coming out this weekend, I decided to try my hand at creating an Infographic off the data I gathered at the Qual360 conference. As you might remember, I ran a Large-Scale Focus Group (coupled with Dialsmith's Perception Analyzer) aimed at understanding expectations regarding the upcoming summer movie season and what makes a successful trailer.
Within that data, I learned that moviegoers are relatively optimistic about the upcoming summer movie season and this optimism is often due to the sequels being released (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, etc.) As I pointed out in my original post, expectations regarding sequels do seem to have shifted. I mean, sure we always had some good sequels (some great ones in fact) but in general, they were regarded as ways for movie studios to make money rather than make good films. Now, rather than an immediate negative reaction, sequels promise consistency and an element of "I know what I am going to get..."

And admittedly, this is one of my initial forays into Infographics. I know...late to the party. But my bigger question going forward is how clients might respond to something like this. On the one hand, clients are often asking for a more succinct data story. On the other hand, I have just as many clients asking for more data to support key insights. So, if anyone out there has experience with Infographics, how are you using them? Are they replacing traditional reports? Are they being used as complementary deliverables?
And of course – are you heading out this weekend to see Avengers: Age of Ultron? I know I am.
