How to Explain Technical Jargons

How to Explain Technical Jargons

Do you have a time when HRs don't understand what you say when seeking a job?
Do you have a time when answering a question from a student but he/she is still confused?
Do you have a time when you tried to explain your recent work to your parent but feel it is so hard?

It is hard because you are using a lot of jargons they do not understand! Here are three tips for you to explain jargons.

  1. Never use too many jargons. Using a lot of jargons in your conversation may confuse your audience, or even annoy them. They will feel foolish when listening to you but not understand a thing. So make sure you avoid too many jargons even if you explain them, common people will still feel hard to memorize so many concepts at a time.
  2. Use clear structure when explaining a jargon. First you may want to bring up the concept. Then illustrate it in detail, don't be too long, two or three sentences will be enough. Don't forget to wrap up. Use analogy and examples will be much helpful.
  3. Keep it right. Of course it is important to explain it right. You may want to make your explanation precise and avoid ambiguity. If you realized what you said is wrong, don't be afraid to say "Let me reorganize it .... ", or "Let me say it in another way ...". Your audience will never mind it.

So with these tips, you still need to pay attention in daily life and practice more. Hope this post can help you.
