How do we demystify technical #contentwriting

Although we don't consider ourselves as subject experts, as #contentdevelopers, we are often called upon to pry out technical information from clients and demystify it for their target audience.

Very often, at Write Solutions, we are presented with the task of developing technical brochures and catalogs for clients. Most such brochures are meant for B2B circulation.

The most recent such assignment came on the reference of our long-time design collaborator Shankar. Those not familiar with his work are encouraged to check it out at antialias.in.

The assignment was developing content for the print brochure of Screen-o-Tex (India) Pvt. Ltd., an Ahmedabad-based company that is a niche player in the supply of screens - Altus Screens, Novus Screens, Tech Screens and a newly-launched Vega® Screens– to textile industry at home and abroad.

We hadn’t done any work for a screen manufacturer before, didn’t understand the highly technical nature of this work, what is the industry terminology, the quality parameters etc., but with thorough research, a documented brief from the client and our three-way Quality Assurance (#QA) for #contentdevelopment, and a couple of revision rounds; not to forget Shankar’s help, we were finally able to crack the code. Please refer to the attached brochure that the client was also pleased with.

It’s important to acknowledge that as #businesscontentdevelopers, we are not required to be experts in any particular domain. To be absolutely honest, we are not expected to be expert in any particular business vertical, but to be extremely deft at extracting a clear brief from the client; researching the subject thoroughly and then bring it down to the level of the target customer’s understanding.

The role is well laid out for #businesscontentdevelopers, and if it's followed in a process-driven way, the way we do it at Write Solutions, satisfactory results are guaranteed.
