"Hello, World!" - A recruiters effort to code.
So as I delve deeper into the world of (I'll use a broad term...) Software Engineering, I thought it would only be fair to develop my understanding of what the pro's are getting up to these days.
My aim is to be able to put you, as the candidate in the "best fit" roles. From this I believe you can only really spot the best opportunities if you really understand what it is a company is trying to produce. Being a very hands on guy when it comes to learning, I decided to try coding for myself, I spoke to dozens of keyboard wizards that have been in this day 1 position. Asking for recommendations on where to start I've had, "You need to start with C#" / "Java is the future!" / "Everybody needs Python" / "JavaScript is an easy place to Start" / "Learn HTML, that's a fun place to start!".
I decided to pick three languages to lay the foundations; C#, Python, JavaScript. These three make up a bulk of my network's main skills, and I wanted to really understand what it is that you people do day to day. I have found that the programming language that most appealing to me is Python! I'm not sure why but I found it to be a lot of fun to learn while I'm sat at home, melting into my sofa eating pizza.
What I want to get an idea of here is, what did people find difficult when learning their coding skills in the beginning, and what did you find that you liked about your preferred language.
Most of all I want to know what you want from recruiters to help you progress professionally. What can we do as recruiters to fully understand your career path, and when a recruiter approaches you, would you be more open to talking to people who are Hands on in your profession.
