Google Analytics: The Power of Interactions

Google Analytics: The Power of Interactions

Why should a company use Google Analytics? Google Analytics provides feedback on the behavioral patterns between a website and it’s users. This powerful tool allows digital marketers to track the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and determine if adjustments are needed. Knowing this can help digital marketers deliver more value to the consumers.

In order to use Google Analytics, a special line of code is implemented into the head tag of a website, this is what allows Google Analytics to track the webpage. Once the tracking code is successfully working, Google Analytics will begin to anonymously track various statistics from the users. Statistics such as conversion rates, revenue and number of users that interacted with a web page are just a few stats tracked by Google Analytics. These statistics can then be analyzed and formed into reports to help digital marketers improve the effectiveness of a campaign.

In order to better understand Google Analytics, a couple of courses can be taken. The Google Analytics courses can be separated into two sections. A beginning section and an advanced section. The beginning section provides an overview to Google Analytics as a whole and the importance of using Google Analytics. In this section you'll learn about navigating the Google Analytics interface, formulating basic reports and using various reports to measure campaign goals. The beginning section is separated into four units. They are as follows:

  1. The Importance of Google Analytics
  2. The Google Analytics Interface
  3. Basic reports
  4. Basic Campaign and Conversion Tracking

The second section of the Google Analytics course is the advanced section. The advanced section provides a much deeper understanding of how data collection and analysis works in Google Analytics. In the advanced section, users will learn about other methods of analyzing data such as analyzing them by channel, audience an even in a custom report. Similar to the beginning section, there are four units as well. They are as follows:

  1. Data Collection and Processing
  2. Setting up Data Collection and Configuration
  3. Advanced Analysis Tools and Techniques
  4. Advanced Marketing Tools

Based on the two courses provided for Google Analytics, they provide valuable insights into how marketers can utilize the tool to improve marketing effectiveness. Besides the course, a demo account can be used to gain more experience with Google Analytics.

In order to gain hands-on practice with Google Analytics, the Google Merchandise Store demo account can be used. After viewing the reports for the Google Merchandise Store demo account, the channel that brought the most amount of users to the website was the direct channel. Users in the direct channel entered the website URL into the browser. The direct channel also had the highest number of new users, sessions, average session duration and ecommerce conversion rate.
