Let's consider a scenario Before cloud computing,

For setting up a business you require to set up infrastructure, manpower for management and investments in resources for the setup. The challenges faced were

  • Invest heavily in the setup.
  • Invest in resources.
  • Scalability
  • Less time to focus on business.

How Cloud computing helps?

Cloud computing is analogous to electricity supply. You pay what you use and is managed by somebody else. For example: Whenever you need infrastructure for your small scale business, you take these services from cloud providers and they manage these services on their own and you simply have to pay for it as much as you use.

In simple terms, cloud computing enables on demand services like compute, storage, networking, etc., which can be accessed through the internet and the user is not required to manage these resources.

The features provided are:

  1. Scalable- The requirements can be scaled up and down according to the demands of the business.
  2. Pay as you go - As you use, so as you pay.
  3. Flexible - Capable of bending easily for using.
  4. Secure & Disaster Recovery- It is a shared security model and data recovery can also be done.

  1. SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE (SAAS) - Software as a service (or SaaS) is a way of delivering applications over the Internet. Instead of installing and maintaining software, we simply access it via the Internet, freeing ourselves from the complex software and hardware management. It removes the need to install and run applications on our own computers. For example: Gmail, Facebook etc.
  2. PLATFORM AS A SERVICE (PAAS) - Platform as a service (or Paas) is a category which provides a platform to deploy a software or an application. For example: Mysql, PHP etc.
  3. INFRASTRUCTURE AS A SERVICE (IAAS) - Infrastructure as a service (or Iaas) is a service where infrastructure is provided as an outsource to enterprises such as networking equipments, devices, database and web servers for their business. For example: EC2(VM's), Servers, Storage (S3) etc.
