The rise of artificial intelligence is reshaping how software is built. Developers are no longer confined to writing every line of code manually. Instead, they are transitioning into a new role—intent-driven developers—who focus more on defining what needs to be built rather than how to build it.

This shift does not eliminate traditional software development. Rather, it enhances and evolves it. The core responsibilities remain, but the approach, tools, and mindset are changing rapidly.


The Traditional Developer Mindset

For decades, software development has followed a structured, implementation-heavy approach. Developers typically:

  • Write detailed logic step by step
  • Focus on syntax and language-specific rules
  • Spend significant time on debugging and boilerplate code
