Fear of transforming
Transformation, a word that can be freighting to many despite the importance of this universal principle that is at the heart of our evolution from the very beginning, if beginning there was. And the world of technologies does not rule apartment. I begin by raising my hat to all businesspeople who are dedicated to applying this principle of transformation either through the creation of new agilely technological organizations, or by modernizing those that have been established and prosperous for several years. These transformations range from redefining business processes to changing personnel including creating new roles, up to reshaping a corporate culture that is mutating through the evolution of its core values and commercial priorities.
Like many industries related to the notion of transformation (food, sports, aesthetics, etc.), the one of information technologies has experienced a meteoric acceleration for several years mainly due to generational transitions, technological advances such as cloud computing, the proliferation of cybercrime and the commercial competition of companies that are crying out for the sophistication of their operations to recruit and keep their talents, define evolutionary processes and above all offer their customers a perpetually memorable experience. And of course, their profitability remains at the heart of all these transformational efforts to generate more success.
Where does this fear for transformation come from? Yet we constantly live it through changes in our bodies, our ideas, our circles of friends, our business and personal projects, and many others. Among the great universal fears of the human being is the fear of separation, as well as the fear of responsibilities.
The fear of separation has everything to do with the ability of the human being to feel united with each other, to feel included in groups that share common ideas, to feel recognized by their organization, to join causes that excite them and that justify all the efforts that are made every day of their lives to feel useful even alive. It lies in our ability to move away from bad limiting habits or the ones that became obsolete to adopt new ones more precisely tied to the being we become and seek to become. It lies in our ability to transmute our instinctive behaviors through a more intuitive attitude that allows us to continue to evolve healthily while adopting meaningful approaches that nurture a sense of personal and collective accomplishment.
The fear of responsibilities has everything to do with our ability to make conscious choices for which we must accurately anticipate their impacts while assuming their consequences. Hence the importance of involving people of trust and experience in our transformational choices that nurture collective accountability representing a force too often underestimated or even flouted. Empowering yourself demonstrates the conviction of an individual or a company wanting to immerse itself in the present moment to promote advancement and development, in short, the evolution of a bio diversified and awaken society. For me, I like to think that the expression "as-a-service" comes from the intrinsic desire of the human being to apply the fundamental principle of oneness...oneness of people, their ideas, skills and resources to work in the service of a collective well-being that brings hope and mutual aid. After all, it comes down to our personal and professional responsibility to define the universe in which we want to live together healthily.
I find myself privileged to be able to observe and participate in these phenomena that define major technological modernization projects, both among the customers who adopt them and among the partners who implement them as well as in the manufacturers who define these innovative solutions. This is how I can see the benefits and challenges of the principle of transformation in companies. For some it represents the ability to free themselves from the old processes and adages that have crystallized them in time since they became outdated or obsolete. For others it represents the end of a freedom where suddenly their landmarks and their levers fall and annihilate them.
Transformation encourages some individuals and organizations to fall into heroism as well as victimism; to provoke cohesion as well as separation, to encourage a potential for motivating oneness as well as to toxify a motion by filling it with dominant individualism devoid of any constructive meaning.
Witness to this show in which I actively participate, I try to understand the motivations and fears of the businesspeople that I meet in the name of transformation. I also strive to protect my persevering attitude and sharpen my creativity to support organizations that resist change while drawing inspiration from those who embrace it and teach me a lot in their transformational logics and processes.
Among all the roles that technology plays in our lives is to unite the human who adopts it by offering agility, governance, security, and interoperability. A technology that allows its user to realize his/her ambitions and aspirations, to express his/her creativity, to organize himself duly, to create new links with others and above all to remind him/herself that transformation is inevitable and that it contributes to the evolution of our collective consciousness that helps us to adapt to the adversities and oppositions of life. It will be interesting to see the role that success plays in this principle of perpetual transformation.
