The Face Of Courage?

The Face Of Courage?

The lion is pictured as a representation of courage.

But why?

A lion is fierce. They are strong, agile and fast. They're predators, most animals are in fear of a lion.

Humans can be fierce and overpower those who are weaker. That's usually called bullying.

A lion is driven by instinct. It is 'courageous' not through choice but an inbuilt desire to survive and eat.

Unlike a lion, if we have enough determination we can CHOOSE how to behave. To be or not to be brave. We can choose to keep going, to find a way and succeed. People who make those choices are often more successful and confident.

Think though! What is the internal battle of a lion? Does a lion have a mental dialogue, telling him he has no worth? Or, have a real struggle as a result of experiences and negative treatment throughout life? Does a lion have to struggle with mental health issues that limit its drive or ability to cope with day to day life?

Humans do, and yet we can drive through these challenges in life and succeed. Sometimes on our own, but sometimes with help from others. This takes real courage.

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." Nelson Mandela

One of the things that evokes strong feelings of self-consciousness, or maybe an area where we question our worth, status or right to be there is public speaking. And yet people work hard and challenge themselves, they fight this internal dialogue and create their own story. Slowly building character and confidence along with a skill that can be transferred through personal and business life.

This is real courage, deliberate courage demonstrated by choice and determination. So what would your symbol of courage be? Would you choose your face to represent courage?
