Exploring Project / Programme Management

In today's ever changing world of Project and Programme Management there is always a new theory, working practice or format to follow. Each new organisation a PM goes into they encounter a different way of working - some ways that work, some that don't. For both there are generally good reasons why a Project / Programme Management principal doesn't work, but that doesn't mean that Projects and Programmes can't be run successfully and with the desired outcome for the client.

G6 Enterprises is committed to creating a Project / Programme Management environment that will fit into any client organisation. In order to do this we have started to explore ways of working and models of understanding that will assist the smooth running of a Project / Programme within today's businesses.

Having worked in the world of Project and Programme Management for a number of years now, G6 is putting forward a view of what makes a Project / Programme work from direct experience. This will be a living, evolving document, but generically shows the method of working that we try to follow to deliver and the way we have found works best for optimal performance.

The model is only one view, but seeks to highlight some of the areas that G6 have found most benefit the smooth running of a Project or Programme for the client. The model is shown below and is split down as follows into 5 aspects forming the acronym TOP-UP;

1. T - Think

2. O - Organise

3. P - Plan

4. Unite / Update

5. Perform

Each of these categories aims to cover key aspects of the Project / Programme Managers arsenal. These are taken not just from a G6 perspective but also from work with a number end client organisations.

The points at this stage are deliberately short and pointed and we welcome any views you might have on the model to date and will consider them in the next iteration.

And one of the best ways to capture this thinking, organise your project/programme is to use a Business Landscape tool like MooD
