The Evolution of Service Management

One of my connections messaged me this week to say "I’ve seen an offer for a free veriSM and free SIAM foundation course with you on LI. Are my eyes deceiving me or have I got that right? It seems too good to be true?!? 😃" It is true - and here's the reason why.

In 2007, I set up a little company with the website ITILTrainingZone.com. I wanted to test an idea - could eLearning for the ITIL Foundation certification work? Did anyone want it? We launched, and within 24 hours we'd sold our first course. The idea worked!

I was working as a classroom trainer for ITIL courses at the time (thank you to my then boss Barry Corless for allowing me the chance to experiment) but with the rapid growth of ITIL Training Zone, I was able to concentrate on my new venture full time.

So why eLearning? We had a vision - we wanted to make service management training accessible to everyone. We wanted to provide high quality, at an affordable price. In the UK it's usually easy to find classroom courses within a few hours travel of your location, but there are countries where this isn't the case, either the travel is too far or there is no training industry to support learners.

A lot has happened since then, and the service management industry has been transformed. ITIL Training Zone became ITSM Zone and we added courses as new ways of working emerged - areas like DevOps, BRM, SIAM, VeriSM, Agile. Service management has truly evolved, and a service management professional needs to have a broad awareness of the industry to be able to help their clients.

We want to build on our vision and help as many people as possible understand more about the evolution that's taking place in service management. And that's exactly what we're doing.
