Every cloud...

Every cloud...

Anyone remotely interested in Microsoft Azure and it's endless capabilities, will probably acknowledge that there are more announcements to keep up with than ever before regarding one of the market leaders in cloud computing, especially following Microsoft Ignite.

The candidates I speak to in the market explain that it is a continuous cycle of changes, announcements or updates. Which is great in terms of the product itself and proves how agile of a computing system it is. However, others find it a frustration, as they feel once they have got to grips with the general foundations of Azure, Microsoft releases something else to get your head around.

However, the recent announcements from Microsoft in relation to Azure means it has a noticeable 'edge' over the competition. Taking into account the adaptation of the hybrid cloud and it's subsequent function working within the public cloud, bringing these together, with an added sprinkle of AI, we then have the intelligent cloud and the intelligent edge.

This omnipresent approach to computing means Azure is now referred to as the world's computer, driving intelligent applications and system usage that means one thing... breakthrough business results, in particular for enterprise companies. In order to achieve this, Microsoft have acknowledged that the following is what it will consist of:

  • Consistent app platform across cloud and edge
  • Holistic security
  • Single identity management
  • Consistent cloud and edge management
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Comprehensive intelligent edge portfolio to meet every need

This is what it looks like...

To further enable the intelligent cloud and intelligent edge, they released these new capabilities:

  • Azure Digital Twins
  • Azure IoT Edge extended offline
  • Azure IoT Central
  • Azure Sphere preview
  • Azure Data Box Edge
  • Azure Stack

Business around the world are already solving problems 'intelligently' and with an 'edge'. The possibilities seem endless...
