Ethics, Transparency & the Importance of Feedback
The starting point of a maintaining an ethical culture is embodied in MODE Global’s values and within our Employee Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Simply stated, values guide behavior. One of our values is to “Take the High Road.” This includes components such as being respectful, transparent, and genuine to the core.
Transparency, to me, means that we should all strive to ensure that truth be heard, even when it’s hard. Being open and honest with each other (while being respectful) can help all of us grow. I recently received some feedback that pinched for a half second, but truthfully, I am so grateful to receive it that I want to share it with you. I’m the queen of multi-tasking, and sometimes instead of focusing fully on what someone is saying, my mind jumps to another thought, or I might respond to a quick email in effort to whittle down the billion in my inbox. But you know what? When I do this, even though I think I can manage both things at once, the truth is – there is a chance that the person I am talking to doesn’t feel heard or valued in that moment, and that’s the last thing I want to happen! Because I was open to receiving feedback like this and willing to act on it, I’m going to be a better manager and colleague, leader, and friend.
I love companies who build a culture that embraces a norm of speaking up, even when it might be embarrassing or difficult to do so. Feedback is a gift, and I’m grateful for those who speak up. You are courageous! You are leaders! Because in the long run – feedback makes us stronger. It creates a culture in which difficult issues can be discussed. Where if someone sees misconduct, they are inclined to say something about it.

Wedell-Wedellsborg notes that “the psychological counterweight to omnipotence is owning your flaws.” This means looking in the mirror and recognizing we’re all inherently imperfect. To assume we have weaknesses and yet be willing to grow.
So, to our esteemed MODE employees and to employees around the world - - I invite you to help your company continue to promote an ethical culture that encourages all of us to continue living our values, to be transparent, and to speak up! We value your input. We need your feedback to grow.
