Embracing Disruption Through Cloud
Several companies and businesses are wary of change. It brings with it uncertainty, costs and a whole slew of other factors that as leaders, we need to consider and manage. These days, change is made even more daunting with quick advancements in technology and the ever-evolving business world, so much so that we don’t even call it change, we call it Disruption.
But is disruption really as scary as it sounds?
I don’t think so, and I’ll share with you why; because I’ve built my company based on disruptive technology.
- Disruption challenges the industry to improve and progress – whenever someone or something new comes along with an idea that takes off, it raises the set bar. Companies and businesses have to embrace it or get left behind. The good news is that these changes usually come with steps to follow to help you achieve that new set standard – if you’re willing to listen and embrace it.
How I employed it at Alpha7 – As with every company, we (Alpha7) have our competitors. But we got around this by offering a cloud service that thus far, no one else has and trademarked it.
- Disruption is not costly – one of the biggest concerns as a business owner is cost and ROI. However, Singapore is known to be a great place for doing business, thanks to its clear regulations and non-corrupt environment. It has a great pool of talent as well, and is also one of the most thriving places for entrepreneurship and SMEs, with several government grants and other assistance available. And thanks to disruption, banks are being given a run for their money as disruptive financial services offer loans to enterprising individuals and promising start-ups that the big banks turn away. To be frank, it is more costly for businesses to not evolve and keep up.
How I employed it at Alpha7 – I started this process from the ground up by hiring the right people, ensuring that I had the right talent with the right skills from the start. This helped cut time (which is money) from the hiring, training and firing process. I was fortunate to find a great cohesive (and multicultural) team.
- Disruption is everywhere and for everyone – whether you’re creating a disruption of your own in the industry with a service or product, or whether you’re using a disruptive tech to help grow or run your business, there’s a disruption out there for everyone. In fact, it’s become a way of life. If you use Uber, you’re using a disruptive service and part of that movement. Why? Because Uber’s turned the traditional taxi companies on their heads – it is currently the world’s largest taxi company, but it owns no taxis. When you use Dropbox or Google Drive, you’re using disruptive technology, and we all do this without a second’s thought. So is disruption really that daunting? If you can apply it to your daily life, then why not your business?
How I employed it at Alpha7 – By offering yet another disruptive tech. Starting my own business and garnering experience from Fortune 500 companies, I understand what are some of the problems that start-ups / SMEs might face, in terms of getting the right tools and allocation of funds. As such, I came with up with a pay-as-you-go Cloud tech service that ensures I assist as many companies or businesses as I can, by offering them the tools they need without having to actually own anything.
And there you have it. Despite the negative connotations that the word brings to mind, disruption is really not that scary, in fact, it’s necessary. As a cloud advocate, I will of course say that embracing cloud tech is often one of the easiest and cost-effective ways to embrace this and help your organisation advance to the next level.
