Effort Vs Result
I heard one comment recently: “I care about the Result not the Effort!”
Since then I have been thinking, "Is it not the effort", which we need to worry about? Of course, Corporate / Business run on results, so we need to care about it. But as a Leader, should I not worry about the effort what the person (associate) is putting?
In fact, I go one more step deeper! It is the intention, what we need to start looking for! If the person is having right intention, then he/she will put the right effort! And if he / she putting right effort, then right result will come. And if we are not getting right result, then problem might be somewhere else! As a Leader, We should go and fix that gap instead of judging that person.
If we care about only Result, then people will start thinking to get the result by Hook or Crook! It may spoil the work environment and may affect the Integrity!
Few days back my Kido came to me crying and said, “Dad, I am trying my Best but I’m not getting Great result”. Then I told her, “Don’t worry about the result! I don’t care about it as long as you are giving your 100%”. Because, I am witnessing her effort! Now, it is my Duty to go and check with their teachers about the problem and fix it.
I am just wondering, why we can’t do the same with our Teams also!?
In my view, “You cannot be a good Leader, if you don’t have a Human angle to it”!
Apparently, the discussion on Effort Vs Result happened thousands of years back itself. And below is the conclusion (from my Favorite Book “Bhagavad Gita”)
Bhagavad Gita, Chapter II, Verse 47:
Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana, Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani
Meaning: You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty. -
PS: No offences please…! :-)
