Dynamic Axis selections using parameters in Tableau

Dynamic Axis selections using parameters in Tableau

Source :- Coffee Chain Date Set

Business Case :- I have multiple measures like - 'Sales' ,'Profit', 'Margin' COGS and their respective budget  measures. That I want to view across time, but you don’t want to see all of the measures at the same time. Instead I want the user to be able to pick the measure to view

Following are the steps to achieve this.

1) Creating Parameter "Select Actual Axis" as shown below.

2) Creating Parameter "Select Budget Axis" as shown below.

3) Creating Calculated Field.

4) Now it's Done :)

5)Right-click on your parameter created above  in the Parameter window and choose “Show Parameter Control”.  It should appear on the upper-right of the window

6) Now Drag both the calculated field to the Column Shelf and Date to the Row Shelf

7)  We will get the following view. Now we can select Axis form the Parameter as per our preferences

8) Well..... hold its not yet Done.

Something is remaining .....

What's That ?

We have to fix it by modifying above Viz as the Combinational (Bar and Circle) Dual Axis Chart

We have to Right click on Actual Axis go for "Dual Axis"

9) After above step Viz will look like.

Note : Right-click on the Measure in the Columns shelf and choose "Synchronize Axis"

In above Viz, both are set to the  "Bar Chart" (Overlapping). Hence we have to fix this by setting one axis to "Bar" and other to "Circle"

10) Bingo ..... It's Done.

Further I have simply added Ref. Band on Actual Axis.

Finally its Done Now.

I have learned this from Andy Kriebel and Lukas Halims Sessions

Hence all credit goes to Mentors - Andy and Lukas Halim
