Dream BIG!
Beyond Dreams, Beyond the World Series - Going Beyond!
This upcoming year 2018 will be unlike anything I've seen up to now. It's been an amazing ride witnessing technology that ANC created in house become the driving engine of the content presentation at the LA Dodgers at the World Series. Amazing! Watching the video boards in the epic pan shots between innings was just cool. However; to say something is cool is easy but to define the blood sweat and tears our team put into the cool is a totally different story. It takes a community and it takes grit to get technology from the idea stage to implementation. What I do is make ideas real. An epic cliché statement but in ANC's boathouse this is completely true.
Listen well.
Today we are tasked to bring the ever-changing video display landscape into sharp focus for the next 5 years. Create a technology path that will allow us to grow even stronger then we are today. Having just finished my plans I figured I would share some ideas that have helped me. First rule is to not operate in a vacuum when it comes time to think about the future. Use the brains of all your staff and every expert you can find. Listen well. Listening requires an amazing filter to not get swayed by all the different ideas that come at you but to figure out what is static and factually relevant.
Happy User Equation
So how can you figure out what is relevant? I use the common-sense rule of predictive user outcome modeling. Think of it as looking at your family sitting at the dinner table. You know what everyone likes and does not like so if you wanted to plan a perfect meal for everyone usually that would mean different foods for all. But if you were to really think about it long enough you should be able to model a perfect meal that a majority of the family could like. This is what I call the "Happy User Equation" my way to create checks and balance in deciding what ideas to pursue. What would a user normally like to see, feel, or touch? I base it on real world observation and of course at the end of the day, a lot of gut instinct based on observation!
"we all decided to take risks"
This upcoming year we plan to work with our existing partners in new ways. We are planning a big announcement at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) about a new direction which will bring heartburn to our competitors. We are confident that ANC and partners are years ahead in our fields; because we all decided to take risks years ago that today are finally coming to fruition. We have waited for certain technologies to arrive and complement our decentralized architecture. The time has arrived to show the world again what it takes to lead. The Dodgers to the World Trade Center projects only occur when you actually walk off the cliff and see the concrete advancing as you freefall... suddenly you get serious about stopping the fall and figure out a parachute. My point is no risk, no gain. I am inspired by my team's tireless effort to take the hard road to make new technologies. I am astounded when I see ideas that were just thoughts become real things that change lives. But nothing is more astounding then the guts it takes by the people that repeatedly proclaim they can change the world and keep doing it.
Great men act and then think about the consequences
The biggest drawback to great ideas is negative thoughts. If you’re not scared, if you feel comfortable in your mission, and you’re in control then you're probably not changing the world. It's been my observation that great men act and then think about the consequences. This article forces me to live to a standard that I set by telling you all that we are going to do great things. The act of telling you it will be great inspires a positive outcome; because I dared to proclaim my intention and create a goal to obtain. The goal drives the outcome. I literally jumped off the cliff. I acted and forced an outcome. Again, think of the idea of ACTion, REACTion to your ACTION, Keep Doing it and progress occurs. Not always says the skeptics; but if you don't quit and give into your fears and keep acting you should eventually succeed. Edison's light bulbs comes to mind. Daring to be daring!
Have the guts to take your ideas and throw yourself off the cliff and build a parachute. Don't think too much beforehand, act, react, do... and go beyond!
