dr. strangecode or:
...how i learned to stop worrying and love the code...
I've been writing code for so long now, dare I say, 360 moons, I have seen it, code, I have actually seen it, the code, whatever shape it takes...all the manifestations, the failures, the quasi-successes, the invisible parts, the infinite parts, all the parts.
...sometimes code even seems to be real...
Brainstorming sessions where code, a problem to solve, an idea --so fragile it's best not to speak it-- the gossamer strands of it paint a fortuitous future, magic. Launch failures that tragically transform months, sometimes years, of excruciating mental toil and savvy politically bureaucratic wins to a 502 gateway unavailable error. The proletariat, code, shivers.
What can a coder do against such reckless, violent simplicity and utter uselessness of it, the 502?
The error, the horror...
There is no better, though nerdy, feeling of well being, than that of a code deployment that does not cause massive attack anxieties and/or cardiac infarction(s) of one type or another, or some other unpleasantness that requires immediate remediation, how awful!
Not much to do my son, in code that is, the site is still up! it lives, in that it did not die. ...that which is dead, or is it, cannot die, can it...
...but do feel free to peruse the LOGS...
Sometimes I detest code, I curse Touring and his stupid, obviously necessary, finite state machines...code is not even a real thing! Electrons dance on precious metals, microscopic wires, ....say what? quantum logic gates come open, say what again?
It is then that code lets me suddenly walk away with my fountain drink after paying the lady the 99 cents via a strange box that always asks for the same numbers... ****
...but it costs a dollar to transact?!...cash, code, cash...
cash is dead, long live cash. Sometimes the old ways are best, but are they really?
I find code inconvenient, passive aggressive, dangerous, but always, despite the asynchronous inflexibility of its birth and my role in that birth-- think on it, to have to talk to other bags of mostly water, to decipher the flexibility of the spoken word, to make that which is magically contextual, ephemeral, astral, rigid, code -- fascinating.
code is fascinating...
Modernity plows forward, always, relentless, cruel, take care, it's dangerous out there.
CODE OR DIE.
or be left behind
...hit me up I can instruct...
