Don't deviate from Basics of IT.

When every organisation was busy in deploying the latest solutions for Zero day protection, ATP, NGFW bla…bla… but the attack of WannaCry brought everyone on toes whether he is from any industry IT, ITes or Non-IT.

This attack reminds me that whatever advance technology/infrastructure is deployed you cannot ignore/deviate from the Basics...i.e.

  1. Always update your infrastructure and related platform with latest patches.
  2. Remove all infrastructure and associated platform, which are not supported by OEM’s.
  3. Don't open any email received from the unknown source. Especially attachments, whatever is the subject.
  4. Don't download everything, whether it is free.
  5. Don't click on every link.

And to the management - Always ready to adopt/upgrade infrastructure.
