Docusign is a powerful platform that provides Electronic Signature capabilities so that whatever documents your organisation needs Electronic Signature, they have an integration platform for the same. For ease of understanding we will refer Electronic Signature as E-Sign in the rest of the article.
Docusign as a product has abundant feature which we can utilise for our organisations E-Signing requirements.
I have implemented Docusign successfully in our products and have learned some of the key things that can help when we integrate with our application. Sharing some of the tips and tricks for using Docusign.

- Using templates locally⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ When using Rest API for E-Sign, if the Docusign template is not being updated frequently, then it would be a better option to store the template locally. This will help to reduce the number of calls to fetch the template from docusign, thus overall increase in overall E-Signing time.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ This will also help to dynamically modify the template and send it for creating the envelope, thus providing us more control over the envelope. This makes the customisation of the envelope easier.
- Docusign Webhook ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Docusign connect webhook is a powerful feature which provides lot of options.⠀⠀⠀ One of the most important feature that I find is to get the signed documents. We can configure Docusign Webhook to send the signed documents along with the data.⠀⠀⠀ This helps us to reduce an additional API call to download the signed documents.⠀⠀⠀ Apart from this, one of the feature that I like personally is of custom fields. We can send custom fields in the envelope and can receive back the custom fields in Webhook⠀⠀⠀ This is useful in case if we have to pass some additional information with the envelope and we would like to get it back when we process the webhook in our application.
