DO YOU EVER GET STUCK WITH TASK COMPLETION?
Yes. The majority will be struggled to complete tasks on time. This will be a common fact for each and every team and there can be so many reasons to get stuck with task completion during the sprint.
So let’s discuss the major five reasons why this could happen and what can we do to avoid them.
1.Stress and work pressure.
When there is stress in our mind, then definitely we won’t be able to concentrate on any task and we will lose interest in things. Then that stress will lead to having work pressure as well. In order to avoid this stress and work pressure, we can do the followings;
- Do Not Attempt While Under Pressure – Stay away from the work for some time and get fresh.
- Feed Your Brain – Eat some delicious food and have a coffee, play some games, watch a movie, etc.
- Talk with the team (Communication) – Have a chat with team members and avoid the stress.
- Track your progress and set a deadline – Set an own expected deadline (that should have a date less than the actual deadline) and track the progress accordingly.
2.Not giving priority and less responsibility for the tasks.
There are some employees who don’t take task responsibility and ignoring the priority of the task. But as an employee, this is not a proper attitude. Hence, we can do the following things as solutions;
- Pick high priority tasks to the first – Prioritize the assigned task and pick high priority once first.
- Maintain a TODO list – Keep a TODO list and maintain it daily.
- Take the ownership of the task – Take the responsibility and ownership of the assigned tasks.
3.Lack of knowledge.
The knowledge level of the employees is different in a team. So lack of knowledge will be a reason to struggle with tasks. Not only by the experience and commitment but also we can gain knowledge by followings;
- Pair Programming – Make a pair and do the things together.
- Have KT Sessions – Take a knowledge sharing from the experts.
- Resource sharing – If the assigned resource is struggling too much and unable to complete the task, then change the resource or add more resources to a task will be a good solution.
4.High Scope.
There are some tasks that have high scope and content. If we assigned to a task like that we can do the followings to avoid stuck;
- Be Selective and focus high priority tasks – Select the high priority sub-tasks/ acceptance criteria.
- Know your limits when picking a task – Before taking a task, have an idea of how to do it and whether you can do it or not. Take the tasks you can do.
- Separate the task into multiple components – If the task has a high scope and many criteria, divide them into sub-tasks.
5.Less commitment and laziness.
In order to have an achievement, there should be a commitment. Commitment is a very important and necessary attitude that all humans should have. But some of them don’t have that commitment and they are lazy to do work. They don’t care about deadlines, sprint and all. To avoid this attitude what we can do is;
- Be interesting in the task – Always interest in the things that you are doing.
- Have the End Goal in mind – Set an end goal and work on it. Before starting the day works, remember that end goal.
MORAL: Whatever the reason is, completing the assigned tasks within the sprint is the responsibility of an employee.
