Diving into Data Science

I was very fascinated by Machine Learning while pursuing my undergraduate courses. The very fact that machines can learn from data and then classify/cluster new data points seemed so intriguing. This fascination only continued so when I came to know about the PG Diploma in Data Analytics being offered by IIIT Bangalore and UpGrad, it was a great opportunity for me to be a part of something I have only admired since a while. Working as a Systems Engineer, this course sounded great as it was part-time and was also designed to mimic classroom teaching with deadlines, exams and doubt clearing sessions. After consulting with a few friends and seniors, I decided to enroll in the program.

Nine months into the course, I have learned a lot and applied ML algorithms in different projects. Working as a group for various case studies was a great experience as it involved brainstorming and incorporating different views and ideas. The lectures given by IIIT Bangalore faculties and the industry-relevant practices and insights provided by the Industry experts are great! It clears one’s basic concepts and shows how to tackle various practical scenarios. Any doubts I faced were cleared in the discussion forum and my student mentor Vanshika was very helpful whenever I reached out to her for any issues. The deadlines, though puts one under pressure, ensures that we are always learning and applying the concepts.

My suggestion to any aspiring data enthusiast is that if data science and machine learning is something that amazes you, then this is the time to dive into it. It holds great possibilities and numerous research areas as there are so many open problems you can contribute to.

Overall, it has been a great journey and I can say that it was a good decision to enroll in this program. Thank You IIIT Bangalore and UpGrad Team for this wonderful course.
