Devoxx UK 2019

This week i was really lucky to be present at the @DevoxxUK. It's always a bliss to meet so many passionate people and find out about the latest trends in software development. A lot of topics were discussed over the 3 days of conference: security, programming languages, big data & AI, cloud computing, software architecture, methodologies and so on.

The staff did a great job and everything ran smoothly: the sessions, the meals, the after party. They even took care of crowd control! (1300 attendees moving from one room to another makes a lot of traffic).

The first day was made of hands-on labs only. I attended the "Social and Emotional Intelligence at Work" lab where Christina @luckygirliegirl told us a lot about how to improve productivity at work by developing personal skills, improving relations with the colleagues, setting organisational values and so on. It was a good decision to attend a non-technical lab. Then i moved on with the "Container Security Workhsop" where i learned key concepts on how to keep your docker containers safe, and how to build a pipeline of reporting unexpected events and hack attempts.

I attended some sessions out of curiosity such as an introduction to web assembly or "Agile is a dirty word" where the speaker explained how a lot of companies fail at being AGILE or this keynote on how real DNA can be used to store data (how crazy is that?).

I was impressed by Josh Long's (@starbuxman) presentation about unit testing a reactive application. He managed to build an app made of 2 micro services and test all that code in 50 minutes! He is really good at keeping the audience engaged and being funny at the same time. Now that's something i am eager to the share with my coworkers.

I am looking forward to get my hands on the videos and watch the sessions i could not attend. The knowledge acquired makes me feel like i'm coming back from the future.

And yes, that is a DeLorean!
