Developing skills on difficult times

Developing skills on difficult times

I truly believe that we all need to continuously develop our skills (in work and life).

Some people will learn new things so they can master a specific topic, others will focus in understanding a little more about something they believe it's important, others will focus on gathering new skills, others will do it for the fun of acquiring knowledge.

In times of economic crisis, it's hard to save money to invest on a course, we all know it. But, there are the times where studying pays off more, so you have to do it.

It will help you to find a new job, to start a new business or simply to set your mind straight in a bad day.

Thinking about it, I just put together a list of websites/apps that can help on getting the tuition you need. Some are free, others may require some investment, but I truly believe you'll find some worth of your time.

If I forgot any site or app, it was not on purpose, so I ask your help, to simply add it in a comment with a few lines of endorsement (please, no free ads).

The whole idea here, is to spread the word and help those who need it.

Also, kudos for the people involved on those e-learning sites and apps.

You guys are amazing!

I will do my best to divide the sites/apps into categories:

General Learning

CourseraCoursera is offering courses from top universities all over the world, with verified certificates as a paid option, plus specializations, which group related courses together in a recommended sequence. There are courses from different topics and the teachers are in the majority,

IT Learning

Udacity Udacity offers courses with paid certification and nanodegrees — with emphasis on skills desired by tech companies in Silicon Valley, but they do have access to free course materials.

Cybrary - Cybrary offers a large collection of IT courses, from beginner to advanced and it offer tracks for specific skills, like Advanced Malware Analysis or CISSP, CCNA certification

Code.org - Code.org is a organization that focus on developing tools and classes for kids, so they can learn how to code in earlier ages, but in reality this works for everyone. I learned some cool things at Code.org.

CodecademyCodecademy offers data science and software programming ( courses for various ages groups, with an in-browser coding console, that will help people that are not familiar with programing interfaces.

Design

SkillCrush - Skillcrush offers professional web design and development courses, regardless of their background. They're more known (at least for me), for their design tracks.

How University - How Design University offers free and paid online lessons on graphic and interactive design, and like Udemy, has opportunities for those who would like to teach.

Language

Duolingo - Duolingo offers several different languages exercises (from beginner to advanced) and you can pace the exercises at your terms (like, 10 minutes per day).

I truly hope this list helps you in your life :)

It's time now, for you to get an "upgrade" (geek joke)
