Developer, You Should Learn Linux!

Developer, You Should Learn Linux!

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m going to give 3 basics points of Why a Developer Should Use Linux.

But primarily, let me set the ground for us all. What is Linux?

Linux is the foundation of many operational systems (OS), such as: Ubuntu Linux, Manjaro Linux, Arch Linux, Debian and so many others. Linux is the Kernel, the logical part of the OS, and unlike Microsoft Windows or Apple MacOS, it’s open-source, which means that it’s code is open for everyone to enhance it. There’s so many more cool things about how Linux was built and how it’s maintained but we gonna talk about this in another time.

Now that we know what Linux is, let’s get into the Why you, Developer - Yeah you! - Should install it and start coding on it.

1 - It’s Free Real Estate!

Jokes aside, being an open-source OS gives so many customization opportunities. It can be configured to look like anything that you wanted. And you could easily get a pre-built OS, with GUI and all that cool stuff already installed, such as Ubuntu, Manjaro, Mint and many more. And change it by your will.

Or you could get it in a Magaiver style and built from the ground up. This is possible with many alternatives, but in my point of view, the Arch Linux experience it’s the best way to do it.

2 - Update it… Or not, that’s your choice

You know that messy upgrade experience from Windows? So… There’s nothing like this on Linux World, you update your system and your apps, when you want it. And it’s so simple that you get upset when you have to do it. Don’t get your work interrupted  in the middle of the day by a sudden update.

3 - Almost all yours tools are here, and in a efficient way

Python, C, C++, Java, R, Docker and many others Languages and tools, come pre-installed and ready to use. They don’t need any tweaking, it just works.

Alongside this, since the majority of Linux Systems are way lighter than Windows or MacOS, your Hardware will be more utilized giving you a lot of head room to create bigger projects.

Conclusion

To summarize, Linux is a perfect way to improve your abilities as a developer, your creativity and to get your job done more easily.  It isn't perfect, but it’s far from being a useless OS. It’s the Industrial Standard and it’s easy to start with.
