Design for the IOT
The world around us is constantly making advancements in every field, especially in technology and innovation, in a purpose of making our lives easier, quicker and more comfortable. It was predicted by Gartner that by 2022, an average family would use more than 500 inter-connected devices to control and operate different items and contents around the house. It will help us save time, money, energy, sources, and even generate more opportunities to make new innovations and advancements in technology and in life in general. The Internet of Things (IoT) is not the name of a useable device; rather it is the name of objects enhance product performance by being interconnected to IP’s and to the internet.
According to Gartner’s prediction, first we have to see and figure out how we are using and comprehending technology, design, and use of IOT. Understanding the trends and demands of the future is what persuades the leading companies all over the world to use “IoT 2.0”, but having top technology experts is not enough for that you must also understand the value of design in improving inter-connected devices.
It is IOT applications that help make a smooth product delivery (B2B2C) available to the consumer and achieve a proper delivery path. To build a successful partnership between technology and design, IoT 2.0 should pay attention to the following items:
- A product gains more credibility and value in the market if it addresses the concerns for most of the consumers’ issues and provides them with a solution for them. In case it fails, it won’t survive in the market for the long-run.
- There should always be a team leader who understands the insights of product design and User Experience methodologies regarding the use of an IoT application.
- Working with IOT requires teammates who understand the technology and the importance of its design for Customer experience.
- In order to lessen the potential loss and decrease in sales, a design-build-test-learn process should be adopted. It should be built after observing consumers’ experiences and consequent outcomes.
- Therefore, to answer IOT demands, designers and techs have to offer a straightforward solution for everyday problems, and experts should combine technology and design in such a way that gives the consumer a reason to purchase.
Technological developments might enable us in the very soon future to use IOT as of the initial marketing stages, hence awareness for IOT has to be an inherent part of every customer journey design step.
