Decision-Making

Decision-Making

During my Master's degree, our team was provided with the task to identify and explain one particular strategy for developing a strong level of trust among the team members. We were given a team scenario wherein 2 of our team members were assumed to be from the United States of America, 1 member is assumed to be from the United Kingdom and 2 other members (including myself) are from Brisbane, Australia. The main aim of this report is to identify the detailed decision-making process followed by our team to reach one specific solution (i.e. to define a specific strategy for developing a strong level of trust among the team).

Decision-making implies making specific choices from various alternatives. The Decision-making process includes various steps undertaken by organizations (teams) to reach a specific solution. For example, identifying the goal, gathering relevant information, weighing different opinions, considering the major consequences of different alternatives, making the decision, and finally evaluating the decision. The forthcoming report will discuss the decision-making process followed by our team to reach the specific solution (decision)

For ensuring that team trust is effectively built among the culturally diversified members, I suggested to my group members that Role allocation according to specialty would be best. According to my, when the individuals in the team are provided with differentiated roles, they can effectively work for achieving the best results systematically. For example, Lee et al. (2010) discussed the role of different team members in an organization. The authors discussed the role of the leader in the team. The leader is also a team member who provides knowledge sharing to the team and helps to engender trust among the team members for ensuring the effectiveness of the team in a significant manner. Thus, when team members are provided with specific roles according to their specialization, it helps to build effective team trust among the members of the team.

In our group, there are 5 team members, and they suggested different strategies for building effective trust among the team members. Group member 1, suggested that honest and supportive behavior of team members is effective for increasing team trust among the organizations. Further, the second team member suggested that time management will be an effective method/ strategy for engaging all the team members to contribute equally to the team and helps to increase trust among team members. In addition, the third member in the group suggested that good communication skills between the team members would be effective for building trust among team members for working effectively in a team. Further, the 4th member in the group, suggested that a good and effective team strategy will help manage all the team members and increase the level of trust among them.

Thus, it can be concluded that it is essential that a specific strategy must be used to achieve team goals in a specific manner, before actually implementing the decision-making process. In the above report, it is recommended that Tuckman’s stages of group development must be followed for avoiding team conflicts and making specific team decisions. The report evaluated different strategies presented by team members for building trust among the team and methods followed for reaching a particular solution. Further, it was identified that the diverse culture of team members leads to rising conflicts among them.
