Today, executives and senior management of most organizations receive large amounts of business and operation data on a daily basis; and such data are prepared in the form of spreadsheets, reports, etc. How can they visualize these large amounts of complex data with effectiveness and efficiency is a challenge to them.
Furthermore, organizations are seeking ways to build big data as there are potentials for great opportunities; however, management struggles for finding value in their big data investment. For example, how can they use big data to improve business strategies, product sales, client relationships, etc.
Data visualization is important since using charts or graphs to visualize large amounts of data is much easier for management to understand and process information than using spreadsheets or reports. Furthermore, it is a quicker and easier way to convey concepts in a universal manner. Management can experiment with different scenarios by just making slight adjustments. Useful information: such as customer behavior, product sales distribution status, areas of improvement, etc. can be quickly and easily analyzed.
In summary, data visualization is a trend and going to change the way analysts work with data. To take full advantage of visual analytics, organizations need to address challenges, such as effective and efficient data analyzing, meaningful information displaying, etc. In addition, data visualization has become an integral part of business intelligence tool, organizations looking to really exploit data visualization should select their tools carefully. Because some of the right tool to parse data may not be the right tool to visualize it. Management may need to invest in a combination of tools in order to meet the most effective solution for the organization.
