The Data Standards Directory - development update 14th October 2022

Dear all, please find a link to the latest development weekly update highlighting the work we have delivered in the last week and what we intend to do next week.

This week the team has provided us with a way to continuously tell search engines what new content has been created, as soon as it has been created, so new content can be found quickly. In addition we are now making leaps in speaking the language of search, using schema.org that enables them to understand what we are describing as standards and provide better results to your queries using major engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo (do try and find us and let us know the results!). We hope to make ourselves eligible for Google dataset search using this very soon, making standards even more findable. We hope to introduce more KPIs and analytics around web and Google search analytics too in an openly accessible live data studio report as indexing coverage completes.

As soon as we have been receiving broken links from a new report found on github, we have worked to act or to inform the parent website that their link is broken, to ensure a good user experience.

We want to ensure we provide much clearer communications and have a suggested comms plan for keeping you all up to data via timely updates like this we will start to use. We are currently carrying out research on CKAN, the management system that allows us to populate the Standards Directory. And we are assembling questions to discover what you need in regards to social and collaborative features we could offer in the product.

Next week we are continuing work to review metadata from other standards sites and catalogues and performing content audits to ensure the standards data reflects the current reality. We are continuing work to make it easier for external partners to get access to the Standards Directory, signpost to each other and add and maintain data themselves with our support and supervision. The goal being to provide more standards, detail and awareness of future standards on the horizon.
